Porsche Club of Victoria

Welcome

Jeff Thomas, Club President 2008

President's Message

We like to think the Porsche Club of Victoria is the premier Porsche Club in Australia.

  • We currently have approximately 1100 members
  • The Club is run by a 12 member committee that is elected each year.

The Club has a very strong Social calendar, with bi-monthly meetings where we have had guests speak on many topics including the Victorian Police Traffic Operations Group, Peter Brock, Australian Customs Department, and an automotive designer giving us an insight into the designs of a concept car. The meetings are held mainly at the Porsche Cars Melbourne showrooms located on Victoria Parade, Collingwood. The club supplies a Buffet Dinner with Wine and Soft drinks. Club nights are normally held on the third Tuesday of the month from February through to October – check the Club Events web page for dates.

The Club Social Committee organises car rallies which often culminate at a great restaurant for lunch, but sometimes it’s just a run in the country with 40 or so people of a like mind. Why have a great car and not drive it with others who share your passion for the Marque?

If you are at all competition minded we have it covered;

Club sprints are held throughout the year at Sandown Raceway, Phillip Island, Calder Park, and Winton Raceway. (Club sprints are not races. Vehicles are sorted into groups of similar performance and a limited number of competitors circulate the racetrack to record lap times. Prizes are awarded for the fastest three drivers in each group.) We get the maximum field of 90 Porsches to our track events. This helps to get some of the boy racer out of you to help you avoid speeding tickets. Most important of all is that safety is paramount – and all of the cars are travelling in the same direction!

We also conduct Motorkhana & Khanacrosses events, normally on the skid pan at DECA in Shepparton. This gives members the opportunity to see how nimble their cars are going around a circuit constructed of cones (witches hats) or hand brake turning in a garage (defined by cones), without the higher speeds associated with a Sprint event.

You may want to be part of competition but not want to risk your precious Porsche. We have a great group of “Porsche Club Officials”. This is a dedicated group that come out to our events to help run them as CAMS officials.

The final track event of the year is Presidents Day, where competition members can bring their family and friends to Sandown for a few fast laps of the track.

The very last event of the year is the GALA Club Presentation Dinner, where members who have competed successfully throughout the year are recognised.

Don’t forget to give Porsche you meet a friendly wave - you may see them at the next PCV event. I hope to see you there also.

Safe driving

Jeff Thomas.
President.
