President's Message
Welcome to the Porsche Club of Victoria (PCV) website.
Why does anyone buy a Porsche?
Mostly, it’s because “I’ve always wanted one”. That is the common theme amongst the owners who join the PCV. Porsches are admired for their styling, engineering, quality, driveability, racing heritage and that certain mystique.
Why does anyone join the PCV?
To celebrate the marque
To enjoy socializing with like-minded people
To enjoy driving
To share and acquire mechanical knowledge
What is PCV?
PCV is the largest and most active Porsche Club in Australia, with about 1200 members. It is chronologically number 52 of the officially approved Porsche Clubs around the world and was started in 1975.
It is controlled by an annually elected committee of 12 and has a part time administrator.
It has many main areas of interest:
Competition.
Naturally, that features more prominently than at any other car club. There is an annual series of circuit, hillclimb and motorkhana racing, at tracks such as Sandown, Phillip Island, Winton, Calder, Haunted Hills, Attwood and Broadford. There are class and overall championships on offer over a 10 round season. Within these competition events, there is a non-competitive Entrée group, who enjoy the tracks at whatever rate they like.
Social.
There is a rich and varied social offering of day runs to a lunch venue, overnight and multi-day runs within Victoria or interstate, either open to all club members or those within our Registers.
There are 5 bi-monthly meetings, at either Porsche Centre Melbourne or Brighton, or occasionally at other interesting locations, which include dinner, socializing and presentations by a variety of guest speakers from all walks of life and motorsport.
There is an annual Show ‘n Shine for those who love pampering and exhibiting their pride and joy, in association with the wonderful Motorclassica show, in the grounds of the Exhibition building.
The dinner dance is held in early December and finishes off our year with lots of fun and dancing, prize presentations to our successful drivers and several hundred happy club members and guests.
Registers.
These exist for cars of a particular year group or type of model and offer similar runs, as mentioned above, or technical information sharing events specific to that group. These groups tend to be smaller and of a more intimate demographic, which tends to create lasting friendships.
Marshals.
This active group controls all the competition events and thereby gains an intimate access to, and knowledge of, all the facets of racing, either as a qualified senior official or a trackside “flaggy”. Again, many personal friendships are made within this group.
The club has many ways in which members can participate, volunteer and organize. Above all, it is a club of very competent, friendly and interesting people, of great diversity, who enjoy their cars and each other.
My wife and I joined the PCV on that first night in August 1975 and have enjoyed participating in every aspect of club life and organization since then, without ever losing our eager enthusiasm for the next event!
Contact me, other committeee members, or our administrator, through the details on this site.
I assure you that you will get a friendly welcome.
Will Darvall.
