Sunday 9 December 2007 saw a combined EMR held with the 924, 944 & 928 Register. Arrival at Porsche Centre Melbourne saw 9 cars (of which 2 were Cayennes) and a very social crew - great to see early on a Sunday morning.
After brief introductions, route maps were distributed. Trentham was the ultimate target where a breakfast venue had been arranged for the touring party. The route would take us out of Melbourne along the Calder Freeway to Diggers Rest, across to Toolern Vale afterwhich we rejoined the Western Freeway before taking the Greendale/Myrniong exit and heading for Trentham via Blackwood. Total drive time was estimated to be approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.
We departed shortly after 7.30 am. Moving through the outskirts of Melbourne was deliberately uneventful. Digers Rest allowed drivers to regroup and give their cars an Italian tune-up on the way to Coimadai through pasture land before rejoining the Western Freeway. After a short stint on this main artery, we experienced some excellent roads through heavily treed areas with challenging corners and undulations with minimal traffic - a very pleasant drive for all.
Pulling into Trentham, the tummies were rumbling with anticipation high for a country breakfast! The Bakery (hidden down a side lane), filled with 1960's laminated kitchen tables and vinyl chairs did not disappoint. The food was plentiful with great coffee, and the sour dough breads very tasty indeed. The relaxed atmosphere spawned great conversation (not all about cars) and provided the group an opportunity to get to know each other over good food.
The group could have stayed a great deal longer chatting, but weekend schedules had priority. At approximately 10.30am the last of the group trickled out of the Trentham bakery very appreciative of the country hospitality and headed back to the big smoke.
Overall, a very enjoyable morning with plenty of driving, good company and good food.
Our thanks go to Adrain Harkin, the 924, 944 & 928 Register Captain for organising the event - well done Adrian!
See you all at the next one!
