Marshalling with Porsche Club of Victoria

Competition is an essential part of Porsche Club of Victoria. The Club runs stand-alone competition events, including Entrée sessions for newer drivers, and events in conjunction with other Clubs.

The Club is highly regarded in the Victorian motorsport community for the high standard and professionalism of the events it runs. And in order to run the events, the Club relies on volunteer Marshals (generally but not always our Club members).

How do Marshals support events?

Marshals contribute to enjoyable, efficient, and safe PCV competition. They are responsible for the safety of competitors and are stationed at various points around tracks to respond to any incidents, or track issues.

Volunteer Marshals may be positioned at flag points around tracks, on the dummy grid, as starter, in timing, at the start/finish line, and even as course announcer. Volunteers who have undergone CAMS training and Club mentoring also act as Clerk and Assistant Clerk of Course, Stewards, and provide Scrutineering.

What do Marshals get out of it?

Marshals contribute to the running of PCV Motorpsport events and this is recognised by the club. Benefits of being a volunteer Marshal include

  • Marshals enjoy discounted membership of Porsche Club of Victoria, increasing from volunteering at 2 events (20% discount) to 10 events (100% discount).
  • The Club provides food and drinks for Marshals at each event
  • A petrol contribution of $100 per event is offered for distant events.
  • An accommodation contribution of $150 is offered for two-day events.

Marshals also enjoy camaraderie with fellow PCV members (Officials, Competitors and Supporters) who are like minded Porsche and motorsport enthusiasts.

Marshals get as close to the action of Club Competition as it is possible to get.

Club Competition ranges from the purpose-built-for-racing 911 Cup Cars, 911 GT3’s, 911 SC’s, Boxsters, Caymans, 944’s, 968’s and other models. For Porsche enthusiasts Marshalling provides close to the action and real involvement in club motorsport.

When are the events?

The Events page of the Club website (pcv.com.au) lists upcoming events. Competition events are denoted ‘TRACK’ for easy reference.

Where are the events?

Club Competition typically includes Speed events (Phillip Island, Winton, Broadford, Sandown) as well as Hillclimbs (Haunted Hills near Moe), Regularities (Sandown, Phillip Island), and Motorkhana (DECA near Shepparton).

I haven’t done it before…

New volunteers are always paired with experienced Marshals. In that way, new people are mentored and knowledge and experience built up over many years is passed on.

Where can I get more information?
